History was made at Chester on Friday when the dual Derby hero Lambourn (Australia) took the G2 Huxley Stakes to provide Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore with a clean sweep of the May meeting's Stakes races.
Having to battle harder than Jan Brueghel, Constitution River, Benvenuto Cellini and Amelia Earhart had to complete the clean sweep in the extended 10-furlong contest, the 6-4 favourite who was last seen finishing fourth in the St Leger saw off Bay City Roller (New Bay) to prevail by a neck, with 1 1/4 lengths back to Ice Max (Dark Angel) in third.
“He didn't stay in the Leger and it's always hard coming back this far,” Moore said of the 2025 Derby, Irish Derby and Chester Vase winner who was fitted with first-time cheekpieces. “He was a little bit rusty, but he always felt like he'd find extra and he was kind of having a laugh the whole way around there really. I didn't get anywhere near the bottom of him. He gets a mile-and-a-half, but I don't think he wants to go any further.”
Kevin Buckley was on hand to reflect on the unique achievement by the yard. “It's extraordinary,” the Coolmore representative said of the five-timer. “It's always special to come here, but to win all five Pattern races this week is very special and Ryan said he was always confident. It was a very good performance over that trip. I'd imagine now he'll be aimed at the Coolmore Coronation Cup at Epsom.”
Although this was the first time that O'Brien and Moore have won all the black-type races at the meeting in a single season, they did register four-from-four in 2011 without a runner in the Dee Stakes and had enjoyed another 100% record in 2022 when they didn't contest the Ormonde. This truly is the duo's meeting.

Pedigree Notes
So close to winning a Queen Mary for this stable, Scat Daddy's Gossamer Wings is beginning to earn a lofty reputation among Coolmore's formidable broodmare band. After producing this Blue Riband hero as her second foal, her third is Frankel's talented three-year-old colt Action who was second in the Futurity Trophy last term.
The second dam Lavender Baby (Rubiano) is also responsible for the GIII Victory Ride Stakes winner Baby J (J Be K), the Secretariat Stakes-placed Laureate Conductor (Bernstein) and the dam of the Australian Group 2 winner Infancy (Wandjina). Gossamer Wings' 2024 foal by Frankel unfortunately died.
